Issues and Background

To ensure peacekeeping and prevent conflict and terrorism is a difficult task but it is necessary because it affects everyone, saves lives, 2304553078.jpgand assures peace in the world. To live with security, to not be afraid to walk out your front door, is to live. “'When I saw those girls lying dead on the ground I couldn't believe that I was in a school, it felt more like a war zone.'- This is yet another tragic reminder of the risks facing Iraq's schoolchildren every day as they struggle amid the insecurity to receive t their right to education." (IRAQ: Widespread condemnation of fatal attack on girl’s school). To feel secure is to feel free from danger and if you don’t feel that then you have had a r right stolen from you. The affects of a terrorist attack are the affects of feeling hated, the the affects of losing someone, the affects of what you do next, the affects of fighting to stay standing. 9/11 was a tragic event in history and will always be remembered, along with it the war that followed, the memory of how America stayed standing, how though we will remember the souls, we fought back. However is that what we want people to remember, that we fought back? “There can be no peace in the world where differences and grievances become an excuse to target the innocent for murder. Against such an enemy, there is no immunity, and there can be no neutrality.”(Bush) I disagree with this quote, if you fight violence with violence what is going to get resolved, it is more a matter of pride and your pride doesn’t create peace. Peace in the world means no conflict or terrorism, to feel secure, to not have events like 911, and frankly I don’t feel we have accomplished any of these in the world today, but that doesn’t me we can’t accomplish them in the future.

Why is Peacekeeping a Global Issue?

2071970396.jpg
Is peacekeeping a global issue? Do you really have to ask? Terrorism happens to anyone and everyone. It doesn’t matter is you rich or poor unlike other global issues. When someone attacks you for being yourself, whether you can change or not, its wrong, and when they can do it to you anywhere in the world you must be wondering why? Well I know people all over the world were wondering why on 9/11 as well as on the Beslan School Hostage Crisis. Terrorism also happens all over the world from wealthy countries like American to poor countries like Iraq. It doesn’t really matter where. It affects the world greatly from killing innocent people, to creating wars, as well as spending money that could be used for good and helping people. The war in Iraq started with 9/11 which is a tragic yet famous terrorist attack that people all over the world will remember. However it all started in Afghanistan and moved to Iraq which is causing more chaos than ever in Afghanistan because the US pulled many of their troops out of Afghanistan after ‘defeating’ the Taliban. The US is sending military personal to Afghanistan now to deal with the Taliban. The UN and US are providing $9 billion dollars for aid to the people there. This is just one thing that is being done with one of the larger issues we are facing from terrorism today.

What's being done?

There is one organization that our group has focused on called the National School Safety and Security Serices (NSSSS). They are a group that provides tabletop exercises to help schools (teachers and parents) make written crisis plans. This helps to secure the school for a terrorist attack- in any case. These exersices can provide a less stressful, more time effective method of taking school's crisis planning to the next level. This group also does emergency planning and awareness speeces for teenage yearlevels where they show kids how to deal with certain situations. They also make it possible for the school to prvent and manage schoool violence- and help the schools to be "aware and prepared-not scared." I think they have an amazing program which enriches kids, teachers, and parents about what they could face and how to deal wiht it. Then they take it to the next level with putting security plans into action.

There has also been contributions made to stopping terrorism by UNESCOand UNICEF. They are helping with the terrorist attacks on schools in Baghdad. They issued a statement early last year about how they feel about the neddless waste of childrens lives due to the war where all children are innocent. They also gone over Iraq and found some way to create a suitable strategy to make children feel sage and secure in school. The Ministry of Education has also begged Ministry of Defense and INterior to increase the amount of security in schools in Baghdad. which are the most affected place since the U.S. invasion.
